Use Thinking Mode

Watch Crafty reason through complex questions before delivering a well-considered answer.

Page Updated: 03 Mar 2026

For questions that benefit from deeper reasoning, Crafty shows its thinking process in a collapsible section before giving the final answer. This works with both regular questions and queries that trigger Web Search.

How it works

  1. Open Crafty AI and ask a question that requires analysis, comparison, or multi-step reasoning.
  2. A Thinking… section appears above the response with a live timer showing how long Crafty has been reasoning.
  3. If web search is triggered, you will see a timeline inside the thinking section showing: search queries being generated, searches executing, and results being analysed.
  4. Click the thinking section header at any time to expand or collapse it.
  5. When thinking finishes, the section automatically collapses and shows a summary (e.g., “Thought for 8s” or “Thought, searched 3 queries for 12s”).
  6. The final answer appears below. If web sources were used, numbered [n] citations link to the original pages.

Answer Now

While Crafty is thinking, an Answer now button appears in the thinking section header. Click it to skip the remaining thinking and get an immediate response. Crafty uses whatever reasoning it has completed so far to formulate the answer. This is handy when thinking is taking longer than you need or the question turns out to be simpler than expected.

Search within thinking

When Crafty searches the web during thinking, the section shows a timeline of each search query and its results. Click on a result count (e.g., “5 results”) to open a dropdown listing the individual source pages with favicons and titles. You can click any source to open it in a new tab.

Tips

  • Thinking mode activates automatically for questions that benefit from reasoning — no toggle needed.
  • More specific questions lead to more focused, efficient thinking.
  • Use Answer now if Crafty seems to be overthinking a straightforward question.
  • Numbered [n] citations in the response are clickable and open the original source.
  • Historical thinking sections are preserved — revisit old conversations to see past reasoning.

Troubleshooting

  • Thinking takes too long? Click Answer now to get an immediate response.
  • No thinking section for your question? Simple or direct questions may not trigger extended thinking.
  • Queue notice appears? The system is busy — your response will arrive shortly.
