Manage Interests
Organise documents, web pages, and text into Interest folders that give Crafty AI persistent context across all your chats.
Interests are persistent folders that hold documents, web pages, voice notes, and text snippets. Unlike temporary chat uploads, Interests can be attached to any conversation so Crafty always has the context it needs. You can nest them in a hierarchy, link memories to them, and visualise the whole structure on a mindmap.
Creating an Interest
- Navigate to Interests from the sidebar.
- Click New Interest.
- Give it a name and optional description.
- (Optional) Choose a parent interest to nest it under an existing one.
Adding Content
Open an interest and add information in several ways:
- Upload Files: Select documents (PDF, DOCX, TXT, images, etc.) from your device.
- Upload Directory: Upload an entire folder structure at once.
- Add Web Page: Provide a URL and Crafty will fetch, extract, and index the page content.
- Add Text: Paste or type text directly into the interest.
- Voice Notes: Record a voice note and Crafty will transcribe it, generate a title, and store it as text.
Using Interests in Chat
- Go to Crafty AI.
- Click the Interests (Folder) icon in the input area.
- Select one or more interests from the list. Toggle Include sub-interests to also pull in content from nested children.
- Click Accept. The selected interests appear as chips above the input and Crafty uses their content to answer your questions.
Hierarchy and Organisation
- Nesting: Interests support parent-child relationships. Drag an interest onto another to nest it, or set a parent when creating.
- Reordering: Drag and drop to reorder interests within a group.
- Smart Recommendations: Crafty suggests possible parent-child links based on name overlap. Accept or dismiss suggestions from the recommendations panel.
- Auto-detected Interests: Crafty can analyse your chat history and suggest new interests based on topics you frequently discuss. These appear under an “Auto-detected interests” group.
Mindmap
Switch to the Mindmap view to see a visual graph of all your interests and how they connect. Nodes are sized by content volume and colour-coded: warm colours for interests you created, cool colours for auto-detected ones. Click a node to jump to that interest.
Linked Memories
Memories that Crafty extracts from your conversations can be linked to interests. This means when you attach an interest to a chat, its linked memories are included alongside the documents. You can view, reassign, or unlink memories from the interest detail page.
Managing Files
- Search: Use the search bar to find interests or files within an interest.
- Sort: Organise files by date, name, or size.
- Multi-select: Select multiple files for batch download (as ZIP) or batch delete.
- View text: Click a file to see its extracted text with options to copy or download.
- Settings: Rename an interest, update its description, or configure advanced RAG settings (chunk size, relevance threshold, custom prompt) from the settings panel.
Tips
- Group related documents into specific interests (e.g., “Project X Specs”, “Research Papers”) for more focused AI responses.
- Use Include sub-interests when attaching a parent to pull in all nested content at once.
- Check the auto-detected suggestions regularly — they surface topics you discuss often but may not have organised yet.
- Voice notes are great for quick knowledge capture on the go.
Troubleshooting
- File not parsed yet? Large files are processed asynchronously — check back in a moment.
- Web page content looks wrong? Some sites block extraction. Try a different URL or paste the text manually.
- Interest not appearing in chat attachment list? Make sure it has at least one file or linked memory.
