The short version
- There are no accounts, sign up forms or contact forms on this website, and we don't set cookies. Site search runs in your browser. A search you submit appears in the page address, which can show up in standard server logs, but we don't collect or analyse searches separately.
- We use privacy friendly analytics to count visits and measure page speed. They do not identify you personally.
- We don't sell personal information, and we don't use it for advertising.
- We don't use personal information from this website, or from messages you send us, to train our models.
Who we are
Data Craftsman (ABN 43 673 283 326) is an Australian AI research and engineering lab based in Newcastle, New South Wales. We are responsible for the personal information described in this policy.
Personal information we collect
Information collected automatically
When you visit our website, some information is collected automatically:
- Analytics. We use Vercel Web Analytics to understand which pages are visited. It records page views, the referring site, and approximate information about your country, browser, operating system and device type. It doesn't use cookies, and it doesn't identify you across websites.
- Performance. We use Vercel Speed Insights to measure how quickly pages load. It records performance measurements along with the page, browser and device type.
- Server logs. Our hosting provider, Vercel, keeps standard technical logs when a page is requested, such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. These logs are used to run and secure the website.
Information you give us
We only accept messages through LinkedIn. If you message us there, we receive your name, your LinkedIn profile and whatever you choose to include in your message. LinkedIn's own privacy policy applies to how LinkedIn handles that information.
Information on third party platforms
If you download our models or code, or interact with us on Hugging Face, GitHub or Medium, those platforms collect information under their own privacy policies. We may see public information such as your username, comments, issues or contributions, and aggregate download counts.
How we use personal information
We use the information described above to:
- operate, maintain, secure and improve our website;
- understand, in aggregate, how people find and use the website;
- reply to messages and discuss partnerships or collaborations;
- prevent fraud, abuse and misuse, and protect the security of our systems; and
- comply with our legal obligations.
We won't use your personal information for a purpose unrelated to these without your consent, unless the law requires or allows it.
Personal information and our models
Our models are trained on datasets described in each model card. For example, our first voice model was trained on public domain LibriVox recordings. We don't use information collected through this website or messages sent to us as training data.
Public data can sometimes include personal information. If you believe a model or dataset we have released contains your personal information, contact us and we will look into it and respond.
Who we share it with
We only share personal information in the following circumstances:
- Service providers. Vercel hosts our website and provides our analytics. It processes information on our behalf to provide those services.
- Legal requirements. Where we are required or authorised by law, for example in response to a valid request from a court or law enforcement agency, or to protect the rights, safety or property of people or of Data Craftsman.
- Business changes. If Data Craftsman is involved in a restructure, merger or sale, personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.
Overseas disclosure
Vercel and LinkedIn are based overseas, and information handled by them may be stored or processed outside Australia, including in the United States. We use providers that publish their own privacy and security commitments.
How long we keep it
We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purposes above, or as the law requires. Analytics and server log data are kept in line with Vercel's retention settings. When we no longer need personal information, we delete or de-identify it.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.
Your choices and rights
- Anonymity. You can browse our website without telling us who you are.
- Access and correction. You can ask us for access to the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete, irrelevant or misleading. We'll respond within a reasonable time, and if we can't agree to a request, we'll explain why.
- Blocking analytics. You can block our analytics using browser settings or a content blocker. The website works the same without them.
Children
Our website is not directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Complaints
If you have a concern about how we have handled your personal information, contact us first and we'll try to resolve it. If you're not satisfied with our response, you may be able to lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Changes to this policy
We'll update this policy if what we collect or how we use it changes, for example if we launch accounts or a hosted service. We'll post the updated policy on this page and change the date at the top.
